12th Anniversary Weekend ~ June 21st and 22nd 2013
For our 12th anniversary Aaron and I went to Atlanta, GA for the weekend. We had a special New Holland Society event to attend on Saturday night and made a weekend out of it. Saturday afternoon we went to the Botanical Gardens. They were amazing!!
After we toured the Botanical Gardens we checked into our hotel and got ready to go the High Museum of Art. Once at the museum we met up with the other members of the New Holland Society for our private tour of the Dutch paintings from the Mauritshuis. The main attraction was Johannes Vermeer's painting Girl with a Pearl Earring. All the people were very nice and the paintings were beautiful. It was neat having our own tour with a guide to give us background information about each painting. Afterwards we socialized and enjoyed some yummy appetizers.
Afterwards Aaron surprised me with a yummy Anniversary dinner at a restaurant called Bones. The meat was amazing with sides of hash browns, grit fritters, and look at this dessert they gave to help us celebrate 12 years. We also got a box of cookies shaped like bones. They only lasted a day! Yummy! What a fun day!!
The following morning we had brunch at South City Kitchen. To start they served fresh biscuits with apple butter then I ate crab cake eggs benedict and grits, and Aaron had chicken and waffles. WOW! So good! We sat out on the porch and just enjoyed the morning together.
After breakfast we headed to Stone Mountain. We walked to the top and enjoyed the amazing view surrounding the area. It was a such a nice day and a great ending to our Anniversary weekend.
This carving is the largest bas-relief in the world. The carving depicts three figures of the Confederate States of America: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis. There were fireworks that evening but we weren't able to stay. It was a beautiful area and we are excited to bring the kids here someday.
