Cowgirl Audrey, Savannah Marathon ~ November 2nd- 4th 2012

Audrey has recently decided that she loves to dress up by wearing hats, bracelets  necklaces, mom's high heels, princess dresses and usually a tutu every day.  Today she wore AJ's cowboy hat and even though she has never lived in Wyoming, she definitely has a cowgirl spirit! I was laughing so hard when I was taking pictures of her and they turned out great.  My Wyoming family will appreciate these photos!

Hello Savannah Georgia! This beautiful city hosted the Rock-n-Roll 2012 Marathon. Aaron started running  at the beginning of April and ran his first marathon here in Savannah on November 3rd. We arrived on the 2nd to register and get Aaron all ready for the race.  We rode on a ferry to get to the convention center where all the runners registered, got their numbers and bought any running gear they might want. One neat thing Aaron was given was a tracker that was placed on his shoe so that I could receive text messages telling me when he had reached every 5 or so miles during the marathon. The kids enjoyed the ferry ride and walking around the many squares (parks) in the city.

This was a very big ferry and it was packed with runners and family members going to register.

The picture on the left is Aaron in our hotel right before he left for the race at 6:45am. On the right he is standing at the starting area with a couple that was also staying in our hotel. The race began at 8:00am. The kids and I stood at the 5 mile marker waiting to cheer him on and take some pictures. Music bands of all varieties were positioned every 2 to 3 miles along the entire marathon route. In the picture below AJ was cold and didn't want to sit on the sidewalk. Audrey was dancing in her picture while waiting for dad to run by.

The picture above is Aaron running by us at the 5 mile marker. We were able to catch a glimpse of him at the 8 mile marker, but there were so many streets closed and it was just too hard to see him again until the end of the race.  I loved getting the text messages telling me when he reached every 5 miles and then when he finished. During the race the kids and I walked around, ate breakfast, watched movies in the hotel and prayed that Daddy would be able to finish the race and without injury. Below are several pictures taken by professional photographers who were placed along the entire route.

After 4:16:15 Aaron finished and it finally came time came for us to go to the family meeting spot at Forsyth Park where Aaron would cross the finish line, get his medal and meet up with us. We were so happy when we finally saw him! We rested with him on the grass for awhile and then headed to a park on our way back to the hotel.  We were so proud of our daddy and took lots of pictures to remember his big accomplishment.

After a long shower and resting in the hotel for a bit we played catch with AJ's little green glow in the dark football at each square we came to on our way to dinner.  Aaron was ready to celebrate with a delicious meal at The Chart House. It is one of our favorite restaurants that we visited for special occasions in California. This was definitely a special occasion.

We like to take pictures of the food we love and the fried green tomatoes here were amazing! So were my shrimp and grits. Aaron and  AJ loved their prime rib and Audrey loved their fries.

In order for Aaron and me to finish our dinner and have some peace, we brought along the DVD player with head phones. It made all the difference in our being able to enjoy our night out.

On our last day we decided to take a carriage tour around Savannah.  Audrey was fascinated with the horses and the rest of us loved the beautiful squares with Spanish Moss trees, intricate iron work on the houses, old historic buildings, and learning about the history of Savannah. We will definitely return to Savannah some day.
