Ballet, Pumpkins, Aw Shucks, More Pumpkins ~ October 1st - 20th 2012
Our neighbor Robin works at the Renaissance Fair and is a professional story teller. She came over dressed up in her fairy god mother costume to thank us for taking of some pumpkin cupcakes we delivered a few days earlier. She brought her little box full of homemade wands and let the kids pick one out. Then she gave them a lesson in how to use the wands. This picture is of them practicing. It is super cute!
Audrey started a ballet class at the YMCA once a week. She absolutely loves it! She now tells everyone she meets that she is a dancer, a ballerina. She also wants to wear a tutu every day. I love it although I've had to buy a few more tutus.
AJ is loving soccer again this year. He is scoring more goals and most games he actually puts forth real effort and that makes all the difference. I enjoy the games more when he's doing his best and do less yelling on the sidelines. Its hard not to over-coach him, but I'm learning to let the coach do his job.
There are several pumpkin patches around Charlotte. Several churches have them out on their lawns. This pumpkin patch above is at a church across from AJ's school. He and Audrey ran around it a few times before we picked out several small pumpkins for our yearly tradition of "glittering pumpkins" and giving them to teachers and friends. First we paint glue all over the pumpkin, then we pour glitter all over the glue. They dry overnight and we tie a ribbon on top and hand them out. Super fun, messy, and pretty!
Each year we scope out the corn mazes, and pumpkin patches around Charlotte. This year we definitely found a winner. "Aw Shucks" was full of fall fun and adventure. We could have spent all day there and gone back for more. I'd describe all the fun we had but the pictures will show you instead.
AJ does not want any of his work thrown away, but we have made a deal that I will take a picture of his best work and put it in the Roome Report. Here is some of his work from this month so far. The picture above is a self portrait with his favorite things written and drawn on it. He also wrote about himself.
Scarowinds had an area set aside for the little kids. They enjoyed running around a small maze and picking out a small pumpkin to take home.
I was able to go with AJ on his school field trip to a pumpkin patch. We learned how pumpkins grow in the patch, found our way through the corn maze faster than the other students, enjoyed a hay ride, and played around. It was a fun morning for everyone.
